Blumhouse and Upgrade writer-director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man will creep into theaters next month and Universal continues to prove that they've moved on from the failed action-heavy PG-13 "Dark Universe," and plan to take the iconic monster movies in bold new directions.
Point being, Whannell's new take on the iconic character has been rated R by the MPAA for "some strong bloody violence, and language."
This is most certainly a pleasant surprise, but one that's expected from the man behind the hyper-violent Upgrade. In case you missed it, you can watch the trailer here.
"Trapped in a violent, controlling relationship with a wealthy and brilliant scientist, Cecilia Kass (Elisabeth Moss) escapes in the dead of night and disappears into hiding, aided by her sister (Harriet Dyer), their childhood friend (Aldis Hodge) and his teenage daughter (Storm Reid)."
"But when Cecilia’s abusive ex (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) commits suicide and leaves her a generous portion of his vast fortune, Cecilia suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of eerie coincidences turns lethal, threatening the lives of those she loves, Cecilia’s sanity begins to unravel as she desperately tries to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see."
Jason Blum produces The Invisible Man for his Blumhouse Productions. The film is also produced by Kylie du Fresne (Upgrade, The Sapphires) for Goalpost Pictures. The executive producers are Whannell, Beatriz Sequeira, Charles Layton, Rosemary Blight, Ben Grant, Couper Samuelson and Jeanette Volturno.
The Invisible Man hits theaters on February 28th, 2020.
