More than 40 years after theatergoers were first introduced to Ridley Scott's terrifying sci-fi horror classic, Return of the Living Dead screenwriter Dan O’Bannon’s original screenplay for Alien is being adapted in comic book form this April via Dark Horse Comics, THR reports!
The adaptation of O'Bannon's screenplay comes to us from Cristiano Seixas and Guilherme Balbi and follows in the footsteps of Dark Horse's previous Alien series based on William Gibson’s unproduced screenplay for Alien 3.
Seixas and Balbi's five-issue miniseries similarly follows O'Bannon's original version of events, and is described by Dark Horse as "an alternate line of events."
After signing a deal with production company Brandywine, O'Bannon's script for Alien was heavily rewritten by Walter Hill and David Giler before the film's production. Notable additions ad alterations by Giler and Hill include the android character Ash, who was absent in the original script. O'Bannon's script also didn't feature Ellen Ripley, instead the story was lead by a male hero named Martin Roby. Also, the spaceship wasn't named the Nostromo but the Snark!
"En route to back to Earth, the crew of the starship Snark intercepts an alien transmission. Their investigation leads them to a desolate planetoid, a crashed alien spacecraft, and a pyramidic structure of unknown origin. Then the terror begins..."
Alien: The Original Screenplay series launches on April 22nd, 2020.
