Bill Murray And Aubrey Plaza Parody 'The Lighthouse' For Independent Spirit Awards Promo [Vi

Bill Murray Aubrey Plaza The Lighthouse Promo

While it's only nominated for a single Oscar at the Academy Awards this weekend for Jarin Blaschke's stunning cinematography work (Best Achievement in Cinematography), Robert Eggers' The Lighthouse is receiving a lot more recognition at this year's Film Independent Spirit Awards.

Eggers' his follow-up to The Witch has been nominated for a whopping five Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Male Lead (Robert Pattinson), Best Supporting Male (Willem Dafoe), Best Director (Robert Eggers), Best Cinematography (Jarin Blaschke), and Best Editing (Louise Ford)!

In terms of nominations, The Lighthouse is tied with Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie's Uncut Gems, a film that I personally enjoyed more than Eggers' sophomore effort, but that's neither here nor there. Regardless, 2019 was another damn fine year for A24 and they deserve all the recognition they'll be receiving at this year's celebration of all things independent cinema!

I digress, the purpose of this article is to highlight a fun new promo that's been released for the ceremony, one that features Bill Murray and host Aubrey Plaza spoofing/paying tribute to The Lighthouse. Clocking in at just 25 seconds, the spoof is short but sweet. Plaza sports a handlebar mustache similar to Robert Pattinson's character, while an upside-down pipe-wielding Murray serves as a replacement Willem Dafoe.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards airs live on IFC this Saturday, February 8th at 5pm.
