"Loki" Showrunner Michael Waldron To Write 'Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madne

Michael Waldron To Write Doctor Strange

With Scott Derrickson stepping down and the legendary Sam Raimi taking his place as director for the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel, THR reports the film also has a new writer, as Michael Waldron has been brought on board to work on the script.

Waldron is also head writer of Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ series "Loki" and has worked on Cartoon Network’s acclaimed animated series "Rick and Morty" as writer and producer. Marvel must be liking what they're seeing with Waldron's work on "Loki" if they're will to bring him on to such a big project.

Jade Bartlett was the previous writer on Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, which is being billed by Marvel as the studio's first horror-esque film. We're still unsure as to why Marvel has brought on a new writer and director, but it appears the film is being reworked more than originally anticipated.

Despite Derrickson stepping down as director, he will stay on as an executive producer. He recently took to Twitter to offer his support to Raimi stepping in as director:

Benedict Cumberbatch is returning as the Sorcerer Supreme. Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor are also expected to reprise their roles from the original film. Elizabeth Olsen has been tapped to reprise her role as Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled for release on May 7th, 2021.
