A24's 'The Green Knight' Gets "R" Rating for "Violence" and "Graphic Nudity"

Set to release back in May, director David Lowery's (A Ghost Story, Pete's Dragon) fantasy-horror film The Green Knight was unfortunately delayed indefinitely due to the pandemic, and while we still haven't learned of a new release date, A24 lets us know the film has officially received an "R" rating from the MPA this week.

The Green Knight has been rated "R" for "violence, some sexuality and graphic nudity." And apparently "swords will be touched." Do with that information what you will.

Meanwhile, you can check out the film's previously released teaser trailer below and visit the A24 shop to purchase The Green Knight: A Fantasy Roleplaying Game, an original tabletop roleplaying game inspired by the film.

"From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table."

"An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger."

The Green Knight also stars Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina), Joel Edgerton (The Gift), Sarita Choudhury (Lady in the Water), Sean Harris (Prometheus), Kate Dickie (The Witch), Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer) and Ralph Ineson (The Witch).
