It appears as though Stephenie Meyer won’t be the only vampire fiction author seeing a wider audience in the near future. Today, Anne Rice, the legendary author known for her Vampire Chronicles series of books, announced through her social media that AMC Networks has acquired the rights to a wide selection of her work, in what has been described as a “major acquisition.”
The deal includes The Vampire Chronicles, which gave us Interview with the Vampire and Queen of the Damned, and The Lives of the Mayfair Witches, which consists of The Witching Hour, Taltos, and Lasher. Also included are the crossover novels Merrick, Blood Canticle, and Blackwood Farm. Together, these landmark series have sold an estimated 150 million copies worldwide.
Says Rice about the deal:
“It’s always been my dream to see the worlds of my two biggest series united under a single roof so that filmmakers could explore the expansive and interconnected universe of my vampires and witches. That dream is now a reality, and the result is one of the most significant and thrilling deals of my long career.”
AMC Networks operates AMC and BBC America, as well as streaming services including Shudder and Sundance Now. With this major of a deal inked and made public, it is only a matter of time until the work of Anne Rice gets the television series many have craved. Add to that the promise of Anne Rice and her son Christopher Rice as executive producers for any films and series involving these works, and fans may be in for the most faithful adaptations to date.
