Arrow Films Have Completed a 4K Restoration of David Cronenberg's 'Videodrome'

Way back in 2015, Arrow Video debuted an absolutely magnificent Blu-ray release of David Cronenberg's 1983 film Videodrome, and it appears they may be gearing up for a 4K Ultra HD release in the near future!

Dawn of the Discs shares the news that Arrow has completed a new 4K restoration of the film, which is to be screened at this month's Il Cinema Ritrovato film festival in Italy.

The festival's event page details, "Courtesy of [UK film distributor] Park Circus, Videodrome has been restored in 4K in 2022 by Arrow Films under the supervision of James White and James Pearcy at Silver Salt laboratory, from the original 35mm camera negative and intermediate elements preserved at NBC Universal. This restoration has been approved by David Cronenberg."

Hopefully this means a 4K Ultra HD release will follow soon after. Stay tuned for more as we learn it!

In Videodrome, Max Renn (James Woods) is looking for fresh new content for his TV channel when he happens across some illegal S&M-style broadcasts called Videodrome . Embroiling his girlfriend Nicki (Debbie Harry) in his search for the source, his journey begins to blur the lines between reality and fantasy as he works his way through sadomasochistic games, shady organisations and body transformations stunningly realised by the Oscar-winning makeup effects artist Rick Baker.

Hailed by his contemporaries John Carpenter and Martin Scorsese as a genius, Videodrome, was Cronenberg's most mature work to date and still stands as one of his greatest.
