Say what you will about Blackcraft being the Abercrombie and Fitch of goth fashion, but when they put their efforts behind a cause, the results speak for themselves. This past Tuesday, the fashion label released a special “Fuck Racism” tee on their store, promising all proceeds to the George Floyd Memorial Fund. The fund was established by George’s brother Philonese, after his murder at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers on May 25, 2020.
The one-day total was $83,316.06, which Blackcraft would match dollar for dollar, making the grand total donation $166,632.12. The GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $12.8 million at the time of this publication, will be overseen by Philonese Floyd, with the funds used to cover funeral expenses for George, educational expenses for his family, and court and other related costs involved with the murder trial. If you wish to donate to the fund directly, the link is highlighted above.
In their statement, the label says:
“With your help, we were able to raise $83,316.06 from our Benefit Tee. We at Blackcraft, will be matching this amount dollar for dollar leading to a grand total of $166,632.12 being donated to George Floyd's Memorial Fund.
In an effort to be continually proactive, this shirt will be available for purchase on our website indefinitely. 100% of the proceeds raised from the sale of these shirts will be donated to the NAACP to aid in the fight against social and racial injustice.
Together, we can take a stand against racism and help bring about the much needed change POC deserve. Black Lives Matter.”
I, for one, cannot wait for my own “Fuck Racism” shirt, and frankly couldn’t buy one fast enough. If you missed the original release and campaign, worry not. The shirt is being left on the store’s site indefinitely, with any future proceeds from sales going to the NAACP, in order to “aid in the fight against racial and social injustice.” To purchase your very own "Fuck Racism" shirt, click here.
