You can’t stop the bum rush, indeed. During Sunday’s 63rd Annual Grammy Awards - or rather, the pre-show, no we’re not bitter at all - Body Count received the award for Best Metal Performance for their blistering track “Bum-Rush,” taken from their stellar Carnivore album (review). The win marked the band’s first Grammy Award, as well as their second nomination, the first coming from 2018’s awards for “Black Hoodie.”
The remaining nominees were Code Orange’s “Underneath,” In This Moment’s “The In-Between,” Poppy’s “BLOODMONEY,” and Power Trip’s “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe - Live).” All of these acts saw their first nominations in this year’s awards. Frankly, I would have been happy with any of these acts notching the golden gramophone, but seeing Body Count take it in the thick of Black Lives Matter is all the more satisfying.
