The Gremlins franchise will make its return after 30 years of silence with next year's animated Netflix series "Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai," but what about the long-awaited and rumored third entry in the live-action film franchise?
While it's been quite some time since we've heard anything about a third Gremlins film, the original film's writer Chris Columbus had a brief chat with Collider this week, revealing that he's written a script that stays true to the heart of the previous films.
"I would love to do it. I wrote a script, so there is an existing script," Columbus told the site. "We’re working out some rights issues right now, so we’re just trying to figure out when the best time to make that film would be."
He continued, "I would still do it the same way – I would do it as tangible puppets, not CGI. Maybe having — you know we had one stop-motion scene in the first Gremlins, but I don’t think I'd use much CGI in Gremlins 3."
Even though this isn't really a substantial update, it's nice to know that hope for a third Gremlins film is still alive, especially with Columbus maintaining his stance on using classic puppetry and not CGI!
Let's hope Netflix's animated series sparks renewed interest in the franchise, allowing for the third film to finally come to fruition.
