Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune' Delayed Until Late 2021

Not that it really comes as a surprise, but we've learned that Denis Villeneuve‘s (Blade Runner 2049) adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune will no longer be releasing this December.

As reported by Collider, Dune has abandoned its December 18th, 2020 release date, instead, Warner Bros. and Legendary will release the film nearly a year later than planned on October 1st, 2021, the same day as the Robert Pattinson-starring The Batman. So there's a possibility that film's release will be shifted once again.

With most major studios shifting their big releases out of 2021, and select theater chains closing closing their doors for the remainder of the year, it's safe to say we'll only be seeing re-releases of classic films on the theatrical front in these final months of 2020 and into the new year.

Described as "mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey," the film tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

Dune also stars Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Dave Bautista as Rabban Harkonnen, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho and Sharon Duncan-Brewster as Liet-Kynes.

Villeneuve directed Dune from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. Oscar-winning and multiple Oscar-nominated composer Hans Zimmer (Blade Runner 2049, Inception, Gladiator) created the score.
