'Donnie Darko' Director Richard Kelly Is Working On A Rod Serling Biopic

For anyone who grew up watching The Twilight Zone, the upcoming biopic about creator Rod Serling is something to get excited about.

The biopic is being developed by Richard Kelly, director of Donnie Darko and The Box.

Like most subjects of biopics, Serling’s life provides a ton of material to work with. Outside of creating The Twilight Zone, Serling enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Philippines as a paratrooper, where he saw death all around him each day. He was even honored with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, which did little to soothe the damaging effects of his haunting experiences while serving. He was also, reportedly, a well-known ladies man.

Interestingly, Kelly 2009 film The Box was inspired by the same Richard Matheson short story, “Button, Button,” as an episode of The Twilight Zone.

How will Kelly handle Serling’s storied life? Will we see his signature ambitious storytelling? Only time will tell, but I’m definitely excited for what’s to come. There’s no official release date yet, but I’m guessing we’ll have further news in the near future.
