Epica Stream New Ballad "Rivers"

Epica are just one month away from the release of their eighth studio album Omega. After greeting us with two epic songs in “Abyss of Time” and “Freedom - The Wolves Within,” the Dutch symphonic metal institution has unleashed another soulful taste of their newest work.

“Rivers” is a strong showing of a ballad, allowing Simone Simons’ voice to command the track. The instrumentation is just piano and orchestra for the first three or so minutes, before the rest of the band kicks in to take things into power ballad country. It is in this restraint where the song succeeds in spades, as it is then afforded the chance for things to breathe before that stirring climax. Whereas the previous two singles went for it from moment one, this one took a bit of time to get going, and to its own benefit therefore.

Omega is out on February 26th via Nuclear Blast Records. Pre-order it here.
