Funded on Kickstarter and now available to order online, writer Curt Tuckfield and illustrator Shane Hunt's Scary Stories: A Tribute to Terror features original stories and illustrations inspired by Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell’s nightmare inducing creations, and today, we're excited to exclusively report the book is receiving an official film adaptation!
Director Dark Infinity (Nemesis 5, RoboWoman) has teamed up with Tuckfield to unleash the official film adaptation of the book. While this project is unassociated with the official Scary Stories brand, Dark Infinity aims to please fans who may have been left disappointed by 2019's André Øvredal-directed Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
"Like most horror fans my age, I grew up with the Scary Story books. They were often deemed 'too frightening' by some schools and I remember my school library was one of the few in the area that carried them. The amazing, atmospheric art and outlandish beasts and creatures that roamed those pages were forever scarred in my brain as a young adult," says Dark Infinity. "Last year, much to the anticipation of Scary Stories fans, a theatrical adaptation was released that left me feeling rather disappointed. It wasn't a poorly made film by any means, but wasn't the anthology format many of us fans were expecting and the focus was less on the villains and more on the central characters."
The director adds, "With this film, we aim to create something more true to the source material, that really brings back the creepy and unique atmosphere that the original Alvin Schwartz books conjured. Curtis Tuckfield and artist Shane Hunt did a mindblowingly fantastic job at re-creating something that perfectly captured what those original books were all about and I hope to do those stories justice when I bring them to the silver screen."
While further details on the adaptation are scarce, we're told that the film will feature six stories from the book and a FREE digital release is planned for this Halloween from SCS Entertainment!
