Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, writer Curt Tuckfield and illustrator Shane Hunt's Scary Stories: A Tribute to Terror, which features original stories and illustrations inspired by Alvin Schwartz and Stephen Gammell’s nightmare inducing creations, is now up for grabs via the book's official website!
The 230-page book is filled with 34 original stories from Tuckfield and 60 illustrations from Hunt, who also provided art for the recently releases Scary Stories documentary.
Hunt explained the project back when the Kickstarter was first launched:
"As kids, Curt and I were traumatized in the best way by the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books. They horrified and delighted us. In early 2016, we decided if anyone was going to make another Scary Stories book it would have to be us. We have spent hundreds of hours analyzing the writing style of Alvin Schwartz and the art of Stephen Gammell. This project is the culmination of that effort. Our goal in making this book was simple; to scare ourselves. We made this book because we wanted it. We knew that if we didn’t feel like it was an authentic Scary Stories experience, then no one else would either."
While the book is no way affiliated with Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, both Hunt's artwork and Tuckfield's writing rival that of Gammell and Schwartz, respectively. Preview four of the book's stories and you'll see just what I mean!
