Fathom Events Announces 40th Anniversary Screenings of John Carpenter's 'The Thing'

"We're not gettin' outta here alive. But neither is that Thing."

This year marks the 40th anniversary of John Carpenter‘s The Thing, and today we've learned from the legend himself that the 1982 horror classic will be taking over select theaters across the country next month!

Presented by Fathom Events and showing for two days only, on June 19th and June 22nd, 2022, the special event will also feature the 84-minute 1998 documentary The Thing: Terror Takes Shape!

"I loved making this movie, and I’m so excited that people can celebrate it and see it in theaters 40 years later. Get tickets to see it at a theater near you!" Carpenter said in a video posted to his social media pages earlier today.

For The Thing, director John Carpenter (Halloween) combined Kurt Russell's outstanding performance with Rob Bottin's incredible visual effects to create a chilling version of the classic The Thing from Another World.

In the film, "Set in the winter of 1982 at a research station in Antarctica, a twelve-man research team finds an alien being that has fallen from the sky and has remained buried in the snow for over 100,000 years. Soon it is unfrozen and unleashed, creating havoc and terror as it changes forms and becomes one of them."

Keith David (They Live) and Wilford Brimley (Cocoon) co-star in The Thing, which also features a Razzie-nominated score by the late great Ennio Morricone.
