John Carpenter Teases Involvement in Upcoming 'The Thing' Reboot

John Carpenter Teases The Thing Reboot Fantasia

In addition to being presented with a virtual Cheval Noir Award over the weekend at the ongoing Fantasia International Film Festival, Master of Horror John Carpenter participated in an hour-long Masterclass Q&A panel that featured a multitude of questions from fans.

During the panel, Carpenter touched upon scoring Halloween Kills, working with Jason Blum and Blumhouse, and possibly helming a project for the studio.

"I have? I don’t know about that," Carpenter said. "But we’ve talked about — I think he’s going to be working on The Thing, rebooting The Thing. I’m involved with that, maybe. Down the road."

While Carpenter stated that The Thing is the film he's most proud of in his career, he declined to reveal any details on the new project and if it would be a prequel, sequel or remake.

However, it's quite possible Carpenter is referring to the Frozen Hell film adaptation from Universal and Blumhouse that was announced back in January.

Frozen Hell is the newly-unearthed (and published) expanded version of John W. Campbell Jr’s novella Who Goes There?, which served as the basis for the 1982 sci-fi horror classic, and "expands The Thing story dramatically, giving vital backstory and context to an already incredible tale."

You can check out the full conversation below, with Carpenter touching on his involvement with the project around the 27-minute mark.
