Filming Has Officially Wrapped on the New 'Scream', Hitting Theaters in January 2022

Filming has officially wrapped in Wilmington, North Carolina on the fifth entry in the Wes Craven-created Scream franchise, writer/creator Kevin Williamson lets us know via Twitter today. Williamson also made the announcement that the new film, which continues the story from the previous four films, will simply be titled "Scream."

"That’s a wrap on Scream, which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film," Williamson wrote.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the filmmakers behind Ready or Not and two-thirds of the filmmaking group Radio Silence, will be directing the movie for Spyglass Media Group and Paramount, with David Arquette reprising the role of Dewey Riley, Neve Campbell returning as Sidney Prescott, and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. Marley Shelton will also return as her Scream 4 character Deputy Judy Hicks.

Mason Gooding (Let It Snow), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown ("Love"), Mikey Madison (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood), Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps), Jack Quaid ("The Boys"), Melissa Barrera ("In The Heights") and Jenna Ortega ("You") round out the cast.

Williamson continues, "Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart. See you in theatres January 2022."

James Vanderbilt (Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, "Castle Rock") co-wrote the screenplay.

Williamson and the third member of the Radio Silence, Chad Villella, serve as executive producers.

Ghostface slashes back into theaters on January 14th, 2022.
