Earlier this month, it was reported that The Ritual director David Bruckner will helming the upcoming remake of Hellraiser, and we've now learned that HBO is gearing up for a TV show based on the classic Clive Barker-created tale!
As you may recall, it was revealed last year that IT producer Roy Lee and Ready Player One producer Dan Farah were working on getting the franchise's first foray into the world of television off the ground, and now that the series has found a home, Deadline lets us know that David Gordon Green (Halloween, Halloween Kills) is directing the pilot and several more initial episodes!
Michael Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat, Krampus, Godzilla: King of the Monsters) is on board to write alongside Mark Verheiden ("Battlestar Galactica", "Heroes").
The site details, "The idea is to create an elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology. It is by no means a remake, but rather assumes the past mythology to be a given. The centerpiece remains Pinhead, the pin cushion-headed merciless leader of the Cenobites, the formerly humans-turned-demons that live in an extra-dimensional realm and are activated through a puzzle box called the Lament Configuration. The Cenobites come from hell to harvest human souls and keep balance between good and evil."
It's important to note that the Bruckner remake and the TV series are completely unconnected to one another.
Green, Verheiden and Dougherty will executive produce the series alongside Lee, Farah, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, Danny McBride, Jody Hill, Brandon James, and Eric Gardner.
