'The Ritual' and 'Hellraiser' Remake Director David Buckner Developing 'V/H/S 94'

V/H/S 94 in Development David Bruckner

Released in 2012, the original V/H/S was a Sundance Film Festival breakout that spawned two sequels, revived interest in the horror anthology format and launched the careers of several prominent filmmakers, and we've now learned that a new entry in the franchise is on the way.

Ahead of the Cannes virtual film market, which kicks off this week, an official press release lets us know that development has officially begun on a "bigger, badder, and darker" reboot of the popular horror series, titled V/H/S 94.

The project was written and developed by David Bruckner, who will also produce. Bruckner directed the memorable succubus segment of the initial V/H/S production, "Amateur Night", and made headlines earlier this year for Searchlight Pictures’ $12 million purchase of his Sundance sensation The Night House, and most recently announced that he will helm Spyglass Media’s Hellraiser remake.

Plot details are unknown at this time, but we're told V/H/S 94 will be the first to be presented in a single, fluid narrative, while also pushing the experiment to new boundaries through the voices of several prominent genre filmmakers.

Filmmakers Simon Barrett (V/H/S, V/H/S 2, You’re Next, The Guest), renowned Indonesian horror director Timo Tjahjanto (V/H/S 2The Night Comes For UsMay the Devil Take You) will also reunite on the project as well as newcomer Chloe Okuno (AFI horror short “Slut”, Roy Lee's recently announced production The Watcher).

The film will be produced by Philly locals Josh Goldbloom and Parinda Patel of the newly formed Cinepocalypse Productions in partnership with Studio71, along with Bloody Disgusting‘s Brad Miska, a co-creator of the franchise, and Tom Owen.

The filmmaking collective, Radio Silence, directors and executive producers of the horror-comedy Ready or Not and original contributors of the V/H/S franchise, will join V/H/S 94 in a producing role. Radio Silence, comprised of members Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett, and Chad Villella, were announced as the directorial team behind the upcoming Scream sequel – another Spyglass Media production.

Raven Banner Entertainment will handle worldwide sales and Michael Paszt, James Fler and Andrew T. Hunt will also executive produce.
