In addition to the upcoming Alien television series, Disney had another exciting, but not as surprising, announcement to make during their Disney Investor Day presentation earlier today. The company has officially confirmed previous reports that a sequel to Hocus Pocus is currently in the works exclusively for the Disney+ streaming service.
In a tweet made by Disney, the company stated the film is being billed as the "spooky sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic," so any concerns that fans may have had about it being a reboot or remake can finally be laid to rest.
A release date has yet to be revealed.
There also hasn't been any announcement made in regards to the sequel's cast, but it is worth noting that the original Sanderson Sisters actresses, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, have all expressed major interest in reprising the roles in recent years.
Adam Shankman (Hairspray, Rock of Ages) was previously confirmed as the film's director. Jen D’Angelo ("Workaholics", "Happy Together") wrote the screenplay.
In the original Kenny Ortega-directed classic, a curious youngster moves to Salem, where he struggles to fit in before awakening a trio of diabolical witches that were executed in the 17th century.
