News broke earlier this year that Jaume Collet-Serra’s Orphan would be getting a prequel film titled Esther, and Deadline this week reports that Isabelle Fuhrman will return as star and associate producer on the project, which has received the new title Orphan: First Kill.
In Orphan: First Kill, "Leena Klammer orchestrates a brilliant escape from an Estonian psychiatric facility and travels to America by impersonating the missing daughter of a wealthy family. But Leena’s new life as “Esther” comes with an unexpected wrinkle and pits her against a mother who will protect her family at any cost."
Julia Stiles ("Dexter") will also star. William Brent Bell (The Boy franchise) is directing the prequel written by David Coggeshall.
Being that Fuhrman was just a child playing a murderous 33-year-old woman named Leea Klamer when Orphan was released back in 2009, some of you are probably wondering how in the hell the filmmakers are going to pull of the same shtick now that Fuhrman is 23 years old. Well, Deadline also details how that's being handled.
"In order to help Fuhrman bring her character to life again, filmmakers are utilizing a combination of forced perspective shooting and a world-class makeup team."
Orphan: First Kill comes from Entertainment One and Dark Castle Entertainment.
Production is currently underway in Winnipeg.
