It's Happening - Abadon Challenges for the AEW Women's World Championship Next Week on 'Dynamite'

This summer, the monstrous Abadon signed with All Elite Wrestling, giving the Living Dead Girl a home on the roster of the Jacksonville-based promotion. After several wins on the promotion’s YouTube show Dark, she made her presence felt on Dynamite, looking to avenge the loss on her first appearance in AEW to current Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida. After weeks of torment that kicked off with a bloody kiss to Shida’s championship belt, Abadon will have her chance to adorn her headstone.

Next week, on part one of Dynamite: New Year’s Smash, Abadon will challenge Hikaru Shida for the AEW Women’s World Championship. Though Abadon currently sits at number 3 on the rankings as of yesterday, I suppose when you take a bite out of your soon-to-be opponent and the current world champion, that might necessitate a move up in the line. No, literally, Abadon bit the neck of Hikaru Shida, following the champ’s victory over Alex Gracia on this week’s Dynamite.

At least this makes more character sense than when Shayna Baszler bit Becky Lynch’s neck earlier this year on WWE RAW?

In any case, the match between Abadon and Shida has been made official, and given the unfortunately lukewarm title reign that Shida has had since winning the gold from Nyla Rose at Double or Nothing in May, it may be time for the Living Dead Girl to ascend to the top of the AEW women’s division and claim the title. There is not a character like her anywhere in AEW, period, and with the new year coming fast, it may be advisable to feature a new face of the women’s division.
