Joe Bob Briggs Teases Official "MonsterVision" Home Video Release

Joe Bob Briggs Teases MonsterVision Official Release

Before we were blessed with Shudder's "The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs," horror fans gathered around their television sets for the very similar "MonsterVision" on TNT, which began airing back in 1991, but wasn't hosted by Briggs until 1996.

Much like "The Last Drive-In," the series featured Joe Bob playing the role of horror host for a different film every week, mainly classic horror and schlock films from the 1970s to the 1990s. Of course, Joe Bob would pop up throughout the movie to provide invaluable factoids and rants. The series also featured guests, such as directors Wes Craven and John Waters.

The final episode of "MonsterVision" aired on July 8th, 2000 with Children of the Corn II being the featured film.

Unfortunately, "MonsterVision" has yet to receive any sort of home video release, but it appears that's about to change, as Joe Bob took to Twitter today to warn fans about buying bootlegged releases and to tease "something official."

"Just a heads up. Anyone offering MonsterVision “box sets,” DVDs, etc., is a bootlegger, and your $50 to $80 is gonna get you an incredibly crappy image, even worse than what you can already find on YouTube," he tweeted. "Just wait a few months and we’ll have something official."

As Joe Bob mentioned, various episodes have been uploaded to YouTube to watch for free, but their video quality is rather shoddy. Vinegar Syndrome's Blu-ray release of Ice Cream Man also includes the entire episode that featured the '90s cult classic, which sees actor Clint Howard appearing as a special guest.

So be patient, stop buying bootlegs and stay tuned for more details as we learn them!
