After venturing into the world of horror with Red State and Tusk, Kevin Smith will be returning to the genre with his upcoming horror-comedy creature anthology Killroy Was Here, and Smith shared the first official trailer out of Comic-Con@Home over the weekend.
Inspired by the famous "Kilroy Was Here" graffiti that was prominent during World War II, the film was originally written as a Krampus-based feature, but has since been re-worked with a new title and creature.
During his SDCC panel, Smith teased Killroy compared the film to classics like "The Twilight Zone" and Creepshow.
"This is a monster movie in the sense of a classic morality tale. No one wants to see you spill the blood of innocents, but when someone crosses the line and goes bad, you get to make them pay in horrible ways, and the audience cheers," Smith teased. "Like 'The Twilight Zone,' Killroy is full of ironic twists and grisly moments. We wanted to make an anthology film in the vein of Creepshow."
Smith directed and co-wrote with Andy McElfresh.
The legendary Robert Kurtzman, who also created the walrus from Tusk, is creating the film's monster.
Killroy Was Here stars Azita Ghanizada, Jason Mewes, Ryan O'Nan, Harley Quinn Smith, Chris Jericho and Justin Kucsulain.
The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in 2021 via View Askew Productions, SModcast Pictures and Semkhor Productions in association with Ringling College of Art & Design.
