'Kill List' Director Ben Wheatley to Helm 'The Meg 2' for Warner Bros.

Well, that's probably one of the more polarizing headlines I've ever written, given that director Ben Wheatley's 2011 film Kill List is just about as indie as an indie film can get and The Meg is a massive, multi-million dollar blockbuster... Regardless, they're both great films.

Also the filmmaker behind SightseersA Field in England, High-Rise, Free Fire, and Netflix’s recent Gothic thriller Rebecca, we've learned today that Wheatley has been brought on board to direct the sequel to the 2018 giant shark thriller hit for Warner Bros!

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news this evening, also revealing that the The Meg star Jason Statham is expected to once again star and be "creatively involved" in the project.

Jon and Erich Hoeber wrote the most recent script from an initial draft by Dean Georgaris. All three were involved in the writing of the first film.

Based on Steve Alten’s Meg novels, The Meg follows a group of scientists exploring the Marianas Trench encounter the largest marine predator that has ever existed - the Megalodon. The film grossed over $500 million at the worldwide box office back in 2018.
