Plus, this isn't the first time we've featured Scarface here on CryptTeaze, as I personally covered and reviewed Universal's phenomenal 4K Ultra HD release late last year.
Back in 1983, writer Oliver Stone and director Brian De Palma unleashed their cocaine-fueled take on Howard Hawks 1932 film Scarface, which introduced the world to the infamous Tony Montana, brilliantly portrayed by Al Pacino. Now, Universal hopes to strike gold once again, as they've put together yet another dynamite creative team to produce a new take on the iconic tale.
Deadline reports that Luca Guadagnino, who brought us 2018's Suspiria remake, is on board to direct a new spin on Scarface for Universal, with a script written by Joel and Ethan Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men)!
While this news may warrant an eye roll or an unenthused groan from most, it intrigues me greatly. I really enjoyed Guadagnino's take on Dario Argento's classic and the Coen brothers are among my all-time favorite filmmakers. I say, give this one a chance!

The 1932 version of Scarface saw an Italian (Paul Muni) taking over Chicago, and De Palma's remake featured Montana climbing his way to the top of the cocaine trade in 1980s Miami. Both were ultimately consumed and destroyed by their respective vices.
While we currently don't have any plot or casting details, we do know that the new movie will be set in Los Angeles.
Scarface will be produced by Dylan Clark. Scott Stuber will executive produce alongside Marco Marabito and Brian Williams.
