At the tail end of 2020, gothic industrial act Ludovico Technique broke years of musical silence with their new track “Live as Myself.” The track serves as a first taste of a potential new album, entitled Hunted People, which would be the band’s first since 2012’s Some Things Are Beyond Therapy, which includes the club hit “Potential.” Now, the wait for new Ludovico is over, as the outfit has unleashed a rocking new goth-tinged single.
While the band is best known for their concussive beats and cold industrial rhythms, “Up to the Flames” is in more of an industrial rock vein. It features a simple 4/4 beat, with Ben V’s low vocals easing the song forward. While the previous single “Live as Myself” flirted more with industrial metal and Neue Deutsche Haerte, this song may have shot a casual glance across the dance floor at these heavier genres, intrigued but ultimately going without.
That said, it has a definite H.I.M. vibe, particularly with the vocals, and while it’s not what I would expect from LT, it’s a great track regardless.
