Earlier this month, we told you that George Miller had begun filming his upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff movie Furiosa, which centers on the genesis of Imperator Furiosa.
Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split, The New Mutants) will be taking on the titular role in the film, originally played by Charlize Theron in Miller’s Oscar-winning 2015 movie.
Warner Bros. has now shared the official plot synopsis for the film, teasing the return of the memorable Fury Road villain Immortan Joe and how the film fits into the Mad Max universe.
Here's the full synopsis...
"As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus."
"Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home."
We're don't know yet who will be playing Dementus, but rumor has it that Chris Hemsworth (Thor franchise, Cabin in the Woods) has been cast in the role of a main villain.
Nathan Jones will reportedly be returning to his role as Immortan Joe’s son, Rictus Erectus. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Aquaman), Tom Burke and Angus Sampson will also star.
Miller will direct, co-write and produce Furiosa with longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell and their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.
Furiosa is set to premiere in theaters on May 24th, 2024.
Last we heard, Miller still intends on making sequels to Fury Road that center on Tom Hardy's portrayal of Mad Max.
