'Mad Max: Fury Road' Prequel Movie 'Furiosa' Has Begun Filming

With his latest film, Three Thousand Years of Longing, opening in theaters this August, director George Miller has now turned his attention towards the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff movie Furiosa, which has just begun filming this week!

Chris Hemsworth (Thor franchise, Cabin in the Woods), who will reportedly play the central villain, announced the news with a Twitter post that read, "A new journey in the Mad Max saga begins."

Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split, The New Mutants) will be taking on the titular role in the film, which centers on the genesis of Imperator Furiosa, originally played by Charlize Theron in Miller’s Oscar-winning 2015 movie.

Nathan Jones will reportedly be returning to his role as Immortan Joe’s son Rictus Erectus. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Aquaman), Tom Burke and Angus Sampson will also star.

Miller will direct, co-write and produce Furiosa with longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell and their Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner.

Furiosa is set to premiere on May 24th, 2024.

Mad Max: Fury Road grossed a whopping $375.2 million at the worldwide box office, and went on to win six, yes SIX, fucking Academy Awards for Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing.

Rumor has it that Miller still intends on making sequels to Fury Road that center on Tom Hardy's portrayal of Mad Max.
