Back in May, CBS officially greenlit their Silence of the Lambs series titled "Clarice," with Rebecca Breeds ("Pretty Little Liars") taking on the role of Clarice Starling for the series that picks up after the events of the 1991 film.
At the time, we also learned that Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar franchise), Nick Sandow ("Orange is the New Black") and Michael Cudlitz ("The Walking Dead") had signed on to star, and Deadline brings us more casting news this week.
Marnee Carpenter ("Criminal Minds", "Good Girls") has been set as a series regular, with Jayne Atkinson ("House of Cards"), Shawn Doyle ("The Expanse"), and Tim Guinee ("Homeland") cast in recurring/guest roles.
Carpenter will play Catherine Martin, the woman abducted by Buffalo Bill and held in his dry well. She was ultimately saved by Clarice Starling in the film's final act.
"Set in 1993, six months after the events of The Silence of the Lambs, the show is a deep dive into the untold personal story of Starling as she returns to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C."
"Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice graduated Magna from UVA with a double major in Psych and Criminology. Her bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. Her complex psychological makeup comes from a challenging childhood, and her drive comes from her need to escape the burden of family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life."
Elizabeth Klaviter executive produces "Clarice" and serves as showrunner for the series that comes to us from writers and executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet ("Star Trek: Discovery"). The project is a co-production with MGM Television and CBS Television Studios in association with Kurtzman’s CBS Studios-based Secret Hideout.
"Clarice" is expected to premiere in 2021.
