Members of Power Trip and Obituary Pay Tribute To The Late Riley Gale With "Executioner's Tax" Cover

On August 24th, 2020, Power Trip frontman Riley Gale suddenly passed away, age 34. The loss of the crossover thrash upstart cast a shadow over the metal world, and worst of all, there has not been a cause of death publicly declared. While the band has celebrated their first Grammy nomination for a live version of “Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe),” the band has been largely quiet on the music front, releasing merch and a live album in the meantime.

Recently, the surviving members of the band were joined by members of seminal death metal band Obituary on a livestream, and tore their way through the Grammy-nominated track as a tribute to their fallen brother. The performance also marked the four-year anniversary of the release of Power Trip’s album Nightmare Logic, which features “Executioner’s Tax,” as well as the first public performance from any of the surviving members of the band.
