NateWantsToBattle's Two New Songs Are Inspired by 'Hello Neighbor' and 'Five Nights at Freddy's

As we inch towards the release of the horror video game-inspired What You Want, musician and proud nerd NateWantsToBattle has been slowly dropping each of the tracks of the upcoming release. Within the last week, we’ve gotten two new songs, the Hello Neighbor-themed “One Last Time” and the Five Nights at Freddy’s-themed title track for the album, “What You Want.”

“One Last Time” has a distinct post-hardcore flavor to it, with the lyrics written from the disturbing Neighbor’s perspective. A final verse is written from the faceless protagonist’s perspective, as he laments his desire to uncover the secrets of the weird neighbor’s house, before abruptly snapping back to the Neighbor’s perspective. The choice of letting single notes as opposed to chords shape the post-chorus sections is an interesting one, but again serves that post-hardcore / Naughties alternative hard rock standard.

The electronic-flavored “What You Want” features JT Music and carries a Linkin Park vibe, an early Naughties nu metal / rap-rock tone that isn’t common in Nate’s music. It’s a departure in some respects, but given Nate covered “In the End,” with Arin “Egoraptor” Hanson playing the Mike Shinoda to Nate’s Chester Bennington, it was only a matter of time before such influences made their way into Nate’s original tunes.

What You Want is slated for release on October 26th via Nate’s label Give Heart Records.
