Neil Marshall Discusses 'Dog Soldiers' Sequel, Stating "There's More of a Chance Now Than Ever"

Hungry for seconds? I know I am!

As I've stated many times in the past, Neil Marshall's 2002 directorial debut Dog Soldiers is easily one of the greatest werewolf films of all-time, and my personal favorite in regards to lycanthropic horror.

While talks of a sequel have been popping up for nearly two decades now, it sounds like one may actually be happening this time around, with Marshall this week telling Den of Geek that, "There’s more of a chance now than ever before [for the movie to happen]."

Marshall adds, "There’s things in the works and we’re seeing what we can do. Certainly, myself and Kevin McKidd and [Dog Soldiers producer] Chris Figg are up for it to revisit this world. Over the past 18 years the question I get asked pretty much more than anything else is 'when are we going to get Dog Soldiers 2?' Part of me thinks I'd like to go back and revisit that world somehow. And if Kev's up for it, then that would make it worthwhile for sure. So we'll see. You never know."

At this time, this is all just talk and it certainly isn't the first time the discussion of a Dog Soldiers sequel has hit the web.

Back in 2004, a sequel titled Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat was announced and expected to begin production for an October 2005 release, but it was delayed multiple times before drifting into development hell, only to be brought up on random occasions in interviews and rumors over the years.

It does seem possible the film is once again in the early stages of development, especially with Marshall now offering up words of hope, as he previously went on record in Scream Factory's Blu-ray commentary that a sequel was likely never to become a reality. However, assuming something does happen, it'll probably still be a while before anything substantial is announced.

Head on over to Den of Geek to read more from Marshall and Dog Soldiers stars Sean Pertwee and Kevin McKidd.

In Dog Soldiers, a group of soldiers dispatched to the Scottish Highlands on special training maneuvers face their biggest fears after they run into Captain Ryan – the only survivor of a Special Ops team that was literally torn to pieces. Ryan refuses to disclose his mission even though whoever attacked his men might be hungry for seconds. Help arrives in the form of local girl who shelters them in a deserted farmhouse deep in the forest...but when they realize that they are surrounded by a pack of blood-lusting werewolves, it's apparent their nightmare has just begun!
