Back in 2000, Takashi Shimizu kicked off the iconic Ju-On franchise with the release of Ju-On: The Curse and Ju-On: The Curse 2, spawning the J-horror craze here in the states and leading to the American-made Grudge remake franchise. Following this year's brand new installment, the original Japanese franchise returns with the series "Ju-On: Origins," arriving on Netflix this summer.
What many people don't know is that Ju-On is actually based on real-life events. This new drama series will explore the origins of the cursed house and the numerous chilling events surrounding it.
Netflix's description reads: "The J-Horror classic franchise Ju-On was actually based on real events that occurred over four decades – and the truth is even more terrifying. Can the people haunted by this house escape from its curse? And what kind of grim incident occurred in this cursed house in the past?"
"Ju-On: Origins" is directed by Sho Miyake (And Your Bird Can Sing), and stars Yoshiyoshi Arakawa, Yuina Kuroshima, Ririka and Koki Osamura.
The series will stream exclusively on Netflix beginning July 3rd, 2020.
