After production was halted back in March, Netflix has announced today that the second season of "The Witcher" will go back into production on August 17th.
Deadline reports that production was shut down in mid-March, when the coronavirus pandemic swept through the UK film and TV business. Cast member Kristofer Hivju, who played Tormund Giantsbane on "Game of Thrones", also tested positive for the virus, leading the streamer to conduct a deep-clean of the set to prevent further infection.
"The Witcher" shoots at Arborfield Studios, which is around 40 miles west of London. The fantasy drama is based on the book series, which has previously been adapted into a hit video game franchise.
The series follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.
The second season will also see the return of Anya Chalotra as the sorceress Yennefer, Freya Allan as Ciri and Joey Batey as the fan-favorite bard Jaskier. Last we heard, Season 2 will consist of eight episodes.
