Here at CryptTeaze, we're all for introducing a new generation to the source of our childhood fears, so it's with great pleasure we can report Nickelodeon has renewed its highly acclaimed "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" reboot for a second season!
The network announced the news earlier this week, and despite the show that ran last Halloween being labeled as a miniseries, we're told that this new season will consist of more than three episodes.
Last year's "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" followed members of an entirely new Midnight Society, who told stories a terrifying tale of the Carnival of Doom and its evil ringmaster Mr. Tophat, only to witness the shocking story come frightfully to life.
The new members of the Midnight Society included: Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray (Top Gun: Maverick); Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold (Best.Worst.Weekend.Ever.); Akiko, played by Miya Cech (Rim of the World, Always Be My Maybe); Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor (IT Chapter Two, Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween); and Louise, played by Tamara Smart (Artemis Fowl, The Worst Witch). The Carnival of Doom’s ringmaster, Mr. Tophat, is played by Rafael Casal (Blindspotting).
Deadline reports ACE Entertainment (To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before) returns to produce, with ACE founder Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman serving as executive producers.
"Though it’s spread over three episodes, the story never feels insincere or stale," Chase Will wrote in his review of the miniseries. "It really does feel like "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" for a new generation, an honest homage to the campiness of the original with respect to the intelligence of kids who’ve already seen everything horror has to offer."
