Screen Media has debut the first teaser trailer for Kevin Lewis' Willy's Wonderland, formerly titled Wally's Wonderland, which will see Nicolas Cage facing off against possessed animatronics in an amusement park.
Entertainment Weekly, who exclusively debuted the trailer, let's us know the film will be released in theaters as well as on VOD and cable in 2021.
While the teaser is only 15 seconds long, it offers up just enough footage to let us know we're in for a lot of bonkers and bloody insanity when the film arrives next year.
In the film, "The Janitor (Cage) finds himself stranded in a remote town. Unable to pay the repair shop to fix his Jeep, he agrees to work off his debt by spending the night cleaning Willy’s Wonderland, an abandoned theme park full of animatronic characters that were once a beacon of fun for children to play with."
"But Willy’s Wonderland carries a dark secret that The Janitor is about to discover. He’s been lured into a deadly trap, or rather, a living nightmare, as the Wonderland’s animatronic characters come to life to destroy him. The Janitor is forced to fight his way from one monster to another, trying to survive until morning. And The Janitor doesn’t play nice."
"It’s a fun, wacky, crazy rollercoaster ride movie," Lewis told EW of the film. "Willy’s Wonderland is like a retro-throwback to the ‘80s. I grew up with Sam Raimi and Evil Dead and those kinds of fun ‘80s horror and action horror films. This was made — and I truly mean this — this was made by a fanboy for all the fanboys and -girls."
Cage will be joined in the film by "Party of Five" star Emily Tosta, Beth Grant (No Country For Old Men), Ric Reitz (The Resident) and Chris Warner (Machete). The screenplay was written by G.O. Parsons.
David Ozer ("Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency", "Wynonna Earp"), Grant Cramer (Lone Survivor) and Jeremy Davis (The Street Racer) are producing alongside Cage and Mike Nilon (Pay the Ghost).
