Quite possibly one of the most unexpected projects we've covered in this total dumpster fire of a year, we've learned today (via Deadline) that the 1986 slasher Sorority House Massacre is getting a television series adaptation with "The Walking Dead" star Norman Reedus on board to produce!
The site reports that Reedus is producing the adaptation of the cult horror classic under his newly launched production banner bigbaldhead, teaming with Robert Schwartzman’s Utopia Originals and Shout! Studios.
"I could not be more excited to collaborate with Robert and his incredible team at Utopia on this project," said Reedus. "Their taste and creative vision are inspiring, and exactly in line with the kind of content that bigbaldhead set out to develop. We are thrilled to revisit this cult classic and create something truly unique."
Stephen Trask, creator of the classic Tony-Award winning Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, will also be involved in the development of the series.
Schwartzman will also produce alongside Danielle DiGiacomo, Brent Haynes, Bob Emmer, Garson Foos, Amanda Verdon and JoAnne Colonna.
The 1986 movie was executive produced by genre legend Roger Corman and written/directed by Carol Frank, and tells the story of a group of sorority sisters who are stalked by a psychopathic killer who shares a telepathic link with one of the girls.
The film spawned two sequels, Sorority House Massacre II and Sorority House Massacre III: Hard to Die, both directed by Jim Wynorski (Chopping Mall) and released in 1990.
