Following multiple rumors and much speculation, Sony's long-awaited Metal Gear Solid film adaptation is finally showing major signs of life, as Deadline reports Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina, Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens) has been cast in the lead role as the iconic character Solid Snake!
Set to be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts's (Kong: Skull Island), the film is based on the beloved video game created by Hideo Kojima and published by Konami.
The script is written by Derek Connolly (Detective Pikachu, Jurassic World), with Avi Arad (upcoming Borderlands and Uncharted adaptations) on board as producer and Peter Kang executive producing for Sony Pictures.
Deadline details, "The game was first launched on PlayStation in 1998 and follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit."
The video game franchise's latest core entry, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, was released back in 2015 and is currently available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. A spin-off titled Metal Gear Survive was released in 2018 to a generally negative response from critics and fans alike.
