I don’t usually watch industrial music videos to get my heartstrings pulled at, but with Chmcl Str8jckt’s latest offering, that’s about what happened, and I’m not mad about it.
The Branchville, NJ-based band just released their third studio album DRK PRGSSN, chock-full of industrial, hard rock, and punk with a tinge of the macabre thrown in for good measure. The video for their rhythmic blast “Destroyer” released just ahead of the album, and it’s a fun time with a little bit of “aww” added in.
The video-long story is that of a young boy getting the KISS album Destroyer from his father, with another young boy going to see Chmcl Str8jckt years later with a similar childlike wonderment about their fandom. Turns out, the young man from the start of the video is the frontman of this band, as he retires to his dressing room post-show and pulls out that Destroyer record, note from Dad still intact after all this time.
Sonically speaking, the track is an old-school industrial rocker, with looping drum programming and a repetitive guitar line. It’s an upbeat song that one can lose themselves in on the dance floor or in the pit. One could compare it to Nineties-era Ministry, or the more guitar-driven classic KMFDM.
