We last heard about Legendary's upcoming "contemporary reimagining" of Troma’s 1984 indie cult classic The Toxic Avenger back in 2019, when news broke that Macon Blair, known for his roles in Blue Ruin and Green Room, had been tapped to write and direct the film.
Well, we've got quite a huge update on the reboot tonight, as Deadline reports that Peter Dinklage ("Game of Thrones", Knights of Badassdom) is set to star!
The site doesn't offer any details as to whom Dinklage will be playing, but we could see him doing just fine as Melvin or even one of the film's villains.
In The Toxic Avenger...
"When a struggling everyman is pushed into a vat of toxic waste, he is transformed into a mutant freak who must go from shunned outcast to underdog hero as he races to save his son, his friends and his community from the forces of corruption and greed."
Deadline details, "The Toxic Avenger became successful after a long run as a midnight movie in New York City, leading to sequels The Toxic Avenger Part II, The Toxic Avenger Part III: The Last Temptation of Toxie, and Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger IV. The property also became a stage musical production, a children’s cartoon TV series and a Marvel comic."
The original film was directed by Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, and the duo will produce the remake alongside Legendary’s Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelter.
