While many remember Elliot Page for his roles in films such as Juno and Inception, the David Slade shocker Hard Candy might be the linchpin for the Halifax native. He plays an excellent foil to Patrick Wilson, as Page’s Hayley turns the tables on Wilson’s Jeff. It’s not a film for the faint of heart, as even though the onscreen gore is minimal at best, the writing and tension make this a compelling film, even if one has to watch through between their fingers.
For this episode of Family Fun Night, director Shawn Burkett (Don’t Fuck in the Woods 1 & 2) sits down with Chase Will, Lucas Liner, Sean Wheeler, and Robyn Luddite to discuss the psychological thriller that is Hard Candy. Shawn says this is the film that made him want to make movies, and what a doozy it is. Terrifying, uncomfortable, and one of the most stomach-churning films to ride that line between thriller and horror.
Part one sees the crew talking about the scoring, editing, and the incredible range of Patrick Wilson, as well as managing to cut the discomfort generated by a film about grooming. Stay tuned for part two of our talk coming very soon!
