For episode seven of our film discussion show CryptTeaze Family Fun Night, we look at the 2009 horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body. Written by Diablo Cody (Juno, United States of Tara) and directed by Karyn Kusama (Girlfight, The Invitation), the film is about high school, succubi, and being Needy (Amanda Seyfried).
The marketing for the film was less about teen horror and more about the massively popular Megan Fox as the title character, especially the character’s (and Fox’s real-life) bisexuality. Horny teenage boys didn’t want a thought-provoking thriller, so the film underperformed in its initial theatrical run. Over a decade later, though, the film has become something of a modern cult classic, as fresh eyes have been able to give the film the credit and love it deserves.
Joining us for this episode is Penny Rae Hawkins, a longtime friend of our own Lucas Liner. Penny is a radio DJ for WBGU-FM, hosting their show “Making Waves,” which focuses on primarily pop-punk, emo, and K-pop music. Rounding out the cast are co-hosts Lucas Liner and Chase Will, as well as repeat offender and photographer Monte Adams.
