In the world of film, one could count the number of times a sequel outshone its original on both hands, but probably still have fingers left over. In the horror world, this could be accomplished on a single hand. While she rode the Halloween high, Jamie Lee Curtis’ next foray into horror, the teen slasher Prom Night was less than spectacular. The sequel, however, Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II, which came out seven years later, was a damn fun film, featuring a long-dead prom queen seeking revenge after her crowning moment became her last.
For this episode of Family Fun Night, co-hosts Chase Will and Lucas Liner are joined by Razor De Rockefeller of Jersey-based horror punk outfit The Mary Lous. The panel discusses Eighties slashers, the unique history of the Prom Night franchise, and the real meaning of the phrase “cult classic.” Lucas gushes over the locker room kill for entirely too long, but have you seen it?
Hello, Mary Lou: Prom Night II is streaming on several apps, including Crackle, Tubi, and Peacock. Check out our discussion on the film below:
