After much anticipation, as well as two summertime singles to keep the appetite whetted, industrial metal / digital hardcore stalwarts Rabbit Junk have confirmed a release date for Xenospheres, their latest full-length and follow-up to 2018’s Rabbit Junk Will Die: Meditations on Mortality. The new album is set for an October 23 release via Glitch Mode Recordings. This record, much like their other works, will be available digitally for pay-what-you-want, though a limited run of 300 CDs are available for pre-order at this time, and those can be found here.
In addition to releasing the album opener “Neurodivergent,” the band has unleashed an album trailer, complete with 30-second clips of each of the record’s nine songs. I will reserve my track by track breakdown for the review, but overall, this album has more of a metal sound than what we’re used to from these genre fusionists. “The Bends” sounds like a sludgy, Mastodon-esque trip, and the band takes on an Iggy Pop and Peaches track with a cover of “Kick It.” There’s more use of heavy detuned guitars and more metal drumming, especially in the kick department, so I’m willing to go out on a limb and call this the heaviest RJ record to date, if only based on the trailer alone.
Xenospheres will be released on October 23rd via Glitch Mode Recordings. Pre-orders can be found at the link above.
