The past few years has seen a glorious resurgence of the Resident Evil craze, with new videogames, well-received reboots, and animated movies. But like a bullet-riddled zombie gnawing at your ankles as you struggle break free, this franchise is nowhere close to dying for good.
On September 3rd, the Resident Evil reboot will arrive in theaters.
This latest outing is directed by Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down), and it’s apparently explores the origins of the infamous T-virus in greater detail and (I’m guessing) with more game-accurate fan service.
Resident Evil stars Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Tom Hopper (Black Sails) as Albert Wesker, Robbie Amell (The Babysitter) as Chris Redfield, and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap) as Leon Kennedy.
Hopefully, this latest take on the franchise will deliver both a lively cinematic experience as well as a worthy story. Previous films, particularly the latest chapters, have been more than lackluster. While diehard Resident Evil fans may’ve enjoyed the six-film Paul W.S. Anderson series for what it was, most of the films seemed underwhelming at their best and downright lazy their worst.
I’m pretty excited about this fresh take on the long-lived IP. Worst case scenario, this is the proverbial bullet the franchise’s head.
