As promised, the first official trailer for Rob Zombie's new take on The Munsters has made its way online, along with the reveal of a September 2022 release window.
Known for his more bloody and vulgar films, such as House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Halloween and 3 from Hell, Rob Zombie now turns to kid-friendly fun for his feature adaptation of the classic TV sitcom, which the trailer reveals to be somewhat of an origin story, focusing on the newfound love between Herman Munster and Lily Munster.
Filled with a variety of kooky characters, the narrator dubs the trailer "the greatest love story ever told," and judging by the campy humor in the preview, horror fans of all ages are in for a spooky treat when the PG-rated film hits theaters this fall.
Yep, a family-oriented, Rob Zombie-directed love story, folks... That's something I never expected to write!
Universal also provided some more details on the film's plot, revealing that "Herman and Lily's crazy courtship takes The Munsters on a hauntingly hilarious trip from Transylvania to Hollywood."
The Munsters stars Sheri Moon Zombie and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Lily and Herman Munster, respectively, with Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa.
The remaining cast includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr, Dee Wallace as the Voice of Good Morning Transylvania, Jeremy Wheeler as Mr Gateman, and Tomas Boykin as Lily's brother Lester.
Original "The Munsters" television series actors Butch Patrick and Pat Priest will also star, and deep cut characters Uncle Gilbert and Zombo will make an appearance.
The original series depicted the home life and misadventures of a family of benign monsters living in an American suburb, who never quite understand why people react to them so strangely.
The Munsters is produced by Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery, and will be released by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
