Rob Zombie's 'The Munsters' Creeps onto Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on September 27th [Trailer]

Last week, writer/director Rob Zombie announced his upcoming take on The Munsters will premiere on Netflix this fall, and while the exact streaming date has yet to be revealed, we've learned today that the reboot of the classic TV sitcom will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and for digital purchase on September 27th.

The home video premiere date was announced by Zombie over on Instagram, along with a new trailer featuring some more footage not seen in the film's first trailer. Check it out below.

The Blu-ray release will reportedly come packed with over 60 minutes of extra footage that you won't find on Netflix, including a making-of documentary covering the movie's production, feature commentary with Rob Zombie and much more.

"For everyone worried they can’t own a copy because it would only be streaming on @netflix, I am happy to tell you we have deluxe Blu-ray/ DVD coming your way with a making of documentary," Zombie wrote on Instagram.

Universal also revealed a full synopsis for The Munsters, which reads, "From writer/director Rob Zombie comes the strangest love story ever told. Lily is just your typical 150-year-old, lovelorn vampire looking for the man of her nightmares... that is until she lays eyes on Herman, a seven-foot-tall, green experiment with a heart of gold. It's love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet in this crazy Transylvanian romance."

"Unfortunately, it's not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily's father The Count has other plans for his beloved daughter's future, and they don't involve her bumbling beau Herman. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll howl at the moon as The Munsters make their way to Mockingbird Lane!"

"The movie is layered and weird, but it’s bizarrely innocent. I feel like it’s the perfect Halloween movie," Zombie recently told USA Today, likening the film to "a live-action cartoon."

The Munsters stars Sheri Moon Zombie and Jeff Daniel Phillips as Lily and Herman Munster, respectively, with Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa.

The remaining cast includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr, Dee Wallace as the Voice of Good Morning Transylvania, Jeremy Wheeler as Mr Gateman, and Tomas Boykin as Lily's brother Lester.

Original "The Munsters" television series actors Butch Patrick and Pat Priest will also star, and deep cut characters Uncle Gilbert and Zombo will make an appearance.

The original series depicted the home life and misadventures of a family of benign monsters living in an American suburb, who never quite understand why people react to them so strangely.

The Munsters is produced by Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery, and will be released by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
