Writer and director Rob Zombie is currently in production on his latest movie, a faithful reimagining of The Munsters that's filming in Hungary and due out this Fall, and Entertainment Weekly has exclusively shared the first official teaser trailer for the film this morning!
The teaser trailer accurately recreates the original black and white intro from the beloved '60s horror-comedy sitcom, iconic theme song and all, before presenting the family in living color. Check it out below!
Zombie tells EW, "I knew that if I went in and demanded 'This movie's going to be in black and white or forget it!' we would not be talking about the Munsters right now, because it would have never happened. I guaran-f—ing-tee it. But what I did do is I made the colors sort of hyper-real. I noticed when the actors were in their makeup and they were just walking around, getting lunch or whatever, they looked like cartoon characters come to life. They were just so insanely colorful. I was like, I have to light the movie in the same fashion. It really seemed at all times like a live action cartoon, which was really exciting."
The Munsters stars Rob Zombie film regulars Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman Munster, Sheri Moon Zombie as Lily Munster and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa.
The cast also includes Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp, Jorge Garcia as Floop, Cassandra "Elvira" Peterson as Barbara Carr, Dee Wallace as the Voice of Good Morning Transylvania, Jeremy Wheeler as Mr Gateman, and Tomas Boykin as Lily's brother Lester. Deep cut characters Uncle Gilbert and Zombo will also make an appearance.
Plot details for The Munsters movie are currently unknown, though the original series depicted the home life and misadventures of a family of benign monsters living in an American suburb, who never quite understand why people react to them so strangely. It was previously reported that the film has been rated PG by the MPA, a first for Zombie, as every other film he has directed has been rated R.
The Munsters is produced by Jonathan Halperyn and Daniel Kresmery, and will be released by Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production arm of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group.
